Start with something useful.
Surface → motion → axis
Ailerons produce roll about the longitudinal axis. Elevators control pitch about the lateral axis. The rudder controls yaw about the vertical axis.
Name the aircraft motion before matching its axis. The wing's location is not the same thing as the axis around which the aircraft rotates.
Load versus deformation
Tension pulls; compression squeezes; torsion twists; shear tends to slide adjacent material layers. Bending combines tension and compression.
Stress is internal resistance to deformation; strain describes the deformation. Do not use the terms as synonyms.
