Texas Property & Casualty · Retake preparation

Good practice scores. Disappointing exam result. What now?

Recognizing a familiar answer is different from applying a rule to a new situation. Before repeating the same question set, find out whether your weak spot is coverage, policy wording, Texas rules, or the way you read a scenario.

15 questions. No card required. A starting point for study, not a pass prediction.

Stop tracking only your percentage.

For each new practice question, write down the deciding fact. If you cannot explain why the closest alternative is wrong, keep that topic on your study list even when you guessed correctly.

  1. 01

    Separate coverage from exclusions.

Ask who or what is insured, what happened, and which part of the policy applies. Then look for an exclusion, condition, or endorsement that changes the result. Avoid using one memorable phrase as a shortcut for every scenario.

  2. 02

Keep personal and commercial situations distinct.

Record which policy or coverage the question names. If you mix up two forms, study them side by side and write the difference that matters to the question.

  3. 03

Give Texas rules their own review time.

Do not substitute a general insurance principle for a state-specific requirement. Keep a separate list of Texas topics and check the current official references linked from the exam guide.

  4. 04

Retest the rule, not the answer letter.

After reviewing an explanation, return to the concept with changed facts or different wording. If the facts change, explain whether the answer should change too.

Make your next study session specific.

Choose one weak area, review the rule, answer a short fresh set, and explain the misses. Save mixed timed practice for checking how well you can switch between topics. Repeating a familiar set can help review, but its score alone does not show how you will perform on unfamiliar questions.
